Academic Humanizer Pricing: Free Credits, Trial and Worked Examples

One credit covers 500 characters, rounded up per run. Here is how that works on real document sizes, what the plans and packs cost, and when you are not charged at all.

Academic Humanizer pricing is based on credits, and the rule is simple: 500 characters of input equal 1 credit, rounded up per run, and new accounts start with 10 free credits. A 2,300-character abstract costs 5 credits. A 10,000-character chapter section costs 20. Runs that change nothing cost nothing.

New accounts get 10 free credits once, and first-time subscribers to a monthly plan can start with a 3-day trial. Below are the details, with worked arithmetic for common document sizes. Prices quoted here are at the time of writing (October 2026); the current figures are always on /pricing.

How a credit is calculated

Credits are based on the length of the text you submit in a run. Divide the character count by 500 and round up to the next whole number.

Credits per run for common document sizes
  • 499 characters (a short paragraph)1 credit
  • 2,300 characters (an abstract)5 credits
  • 3,750 characters (a discussion section)8 credits
  • 10,000 characters (the per-run maximum)20 credits
Worked from the rule: credits = characters / 500, rounded up per run.

The arithmetic behind each bar:

  • 499 / 500 = 0.998, rounded up to 1.
  • 2,300 / 500 = 4.6, rounded up to 5.
  • 3,750 / 500 = 7.5, rounded up to 8.
  • 10,000 / 500 = 20 exactly, so 20.

Two boundary cases are worth knowing. 500 characters is exactly 1 credit, but 501 characters is 2. And 1,000 characters is 2 credits, while 1,001 is 3. If a passage sits just over a multiple of 500, trimming a stray line or a duplicated heading can save a credit.

Why rounding per run matters

Because rounding happens once per run, many tiny runs cost more than one combined run. Three separate 1,100-character paragraphs cost 3 credits each (1,100 / 500 = 2.2, rounded up), for 9 credits in total. Submitting the same 3,300 characters as one run costs 7 (3,300 / 500 = 6.6, rounded up). Where paragraphs belong together, run them together, up to the 10,000-character limit of the web editor.

When you are not charged

Credits are charged only when a complete result is saved. The run goes through four stages, and nothing is billed before the last one.

  1. Scanning for AI signalsYour draft is checked sentence by sentence. No credits are charged.
  2. Rewriting flagged sentencesOnly the flagged sentences are rewritten. Stopping here costs nothing.
  3. Re-checking with AI detectorsThe output is checked again for the report. Still nothing charged.
  4. Saving your resultCredits are charged once a complete result is saved, and only if at least one sentence changed.

That gives three cases where a run is free:

  • No sentence changed. With Humanizer v2, sentences already read as human are left exactly as written. If no sentence is flagged, the output equals the input and you pay 0 credits.
  • You stopped the run. Cancelling before the result is saved costs nothing.
  • No complete result was saved. Credits are tied to a saved, complete result, not to an attempt.

This is deliberate. We did not want anyone paying to learn that their own writing was already fine.

Free credits and the 3-day trial

Every new account receives 10 free credits once. That covers up to 5,000 characters: one 5,000-character run, or two 2,300-character abstracts at 5 credits each. Before you even sign up, guests can try one run; the full result becomes available after sign-up. If you are comparing this with free tools, our look at free AI humanizers with no word limit covers what those usually trade away.

First-time subscribers on a monthly plan get a 3-day free trial with 50 trial credits. A card is required, and you can cancel any time before the trial ends. Fifty credits covers up to 25,000 characters, for example two full 10,000-character runs (40 credits) plus one 2,300-character abstract (5 credits), with 5 left over.

Plans and credit packs

At the time of writing (October 2026), there are two subscription plans, each with a monthly and a yearly option, plus one-off credit packs.

Cost per credit is the price divided by the credits included, rounded for readability.

Which option fits your workload

Translate credits back into text to choose. At 500 characters per credit, Smart's 100 monthly credits cover up to 50,000 characters, for example five full 10,000-character runs. Scholar's 250 credits cover up to 125,000 characters, for example twelve 10,000-character runs (240 credits) plus two abstracts (10 credits). Those are upper bounds; per-run rounding and free zero-change runs move the real figure slightly either way.

  • Occasional use, such as one abstract before a conference deadline: start with the free credits, then a small pack.
  • A thesis or paper in progress, revised in sections over several months: Smart.
  • Heavy, regular revision, such as several papers or a lab's drafts: Scholar, and the yearly option if your usage is steady.

Developers using the API draw on the same balance. The Humanize endpoint follows the same 500-character rule; the Detector endpoint costs 1 credit per 5,000 characters. See the API v2 post for details.

Frequently asked questions

How many credits does a 10,000-character document cost?

20 credits in a single run, because 10,000 / 500 = 20. That is also the maximum for one run in the web editor. A longer document can be split into sections, each charged on its own length.

Do I pay if the Humanizer finds nothing to change?

No. If no sentence is changed, the output equals your input and the run costs 0 credits.

Are the 10 free credits a monthly allowance?

No. New accounts receive 10 free credits once. Subscriptions and packs add credits after that.

Does the 3-day trial require a card?

Yes. The trial is for first-time subscribers on a monthly plan, includes 50 trial credits, and can be cancelled any time before it ends.

Can prices change?

Yes. The figures in this post are from October 2026. Check /pricing for current prices.

Paying for edits, not for attempts

The credit model follows the same principle as the Humanizer itself: only what needs changing gets changed, and only a finished result is billed. If you want to see how your draft reads before deciding on a plan, your free credits are enough for a full abstract and the AI Detection Report that comes with it.

Your ideas, without the AI footprint

Paste a draft and see which sentences AI detectors flag, then humanize only those sentences.
